Eric, I agree with your comment. Unfortunately, from my own personal experience and in speaking with many others coming out of these "mega churches", the message is the same. The fact that the church is "mega" leads me to believe they are not on mission anymore. They are more interested in building giant shrines with thoundsands of Sq Ft, occupying 100's of acres, growing in numbers, and gathering congregants unto themselves than proclaiming the good news of the Gospel, and that God would gather a people unto Himself! They tend to go about their business under the guise of "getting people saved". But if that were truly the case, we would see this lived out in much the same way God has given us in the Bible. Planting more churches, not growing one large one.

Disclaimer: I'm not saying that the size of a church necessarily means they are off mission, certainly not! There are many large churches "on mission" and doing awesome things for the furtherance of God's kingdom.

Just to name a few:
Mars Hill Church
Redeemer Presbyterian Church
Harbor Presbyterian Church

Oh man! The dialog in this clip really does ring true doesn't it? Despite the (sometimes) unusual reputation I do think the mega church can be a force for good given the right theology and focus on Christ (rather than the super star pastors).

Thanks for sharing Steve!
